Pizza Delivery Dangers
Greensboro, NC -- Police are searching for the person who shot a pizza delivery driver Wednesday, November 4, 2009. They do have a possible suspect in custody, but are still investigating.
Police say the robber stopped a "Fox's Pizza and Subs" driver on Tillman Street. The driver didn't give him anything, so the robber shot him. The delivery man drove himself back to work where co-workers called police.
And police have noticed a trend in delivery drivers being targeted, they don't have exact statistics, because they don't categorize incidents by the type of victim.
Skip Sher, owner of Hungry Howie's Pizza, says he takes it upon himself to keep up with the news. If he thinks there's a problem with a neighborhood and it's not a random incident, his drivers won't make deliveries. "Any area that has a history of any type of violence and so forth, we stay away from. You know, I'd rather our drivers be safe then something to happen to them. Their safety is more important," said Sher.
Ellis Allen, a sergeant with Greensboro Police Department, cautions, "If you are uncomfortable or it just doesn't feel right to you for whatever reason, then I say, don't make the delivery. Return to your vehicle and call the store and tell them what you have going on."
