Dell Repays City Of Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem, NC -- Less than one month after they announced plans to close a manufacturing facility in Forsyth County, Dell has repaid their incentive and upfront cost money.


Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines announced Monday afternoon that Dell agreed to an early payment discount. The discount, 0.25%, was only offered the the computer maker paid the city by the end of the week.


Dell made their payment of $26,555,249 to the city late Monday night. That's after the discount of more than $66,000 for early payment.


"Receiving the payment early allows us to invest the dollars and have an amount equivalent to the original amount due on February 1," said Winston-Salem's Chief Financial Officer Denise Bell.


The City of Winston-Salem will keep their portion ($15,517,245.55) after processing the remaining funds to the Millennium Fund and Forsyth County Development.

Dell announced in October they were closing their plant by the beginning of the year. A panel has been assigned to find a new tenant for the 4-year-old building.
