Homemade Gifts For The Holidays
Greensboro, NC -- If the words "second mortgage" come to mind when you think of Christmas presents, then this is for you!
Help your budget by making presents for the holidays (and we're not just talking cookie mix in a jar or ornaments).
Jenn Duke showed children's play trays, drink buckets and toy holders that can be easily personalized. (She uses paint pens to draw snowmen, animals or a child's name on items like kids lap trays that even fit over a carseat. Click here for a link to the play trays at Michaels) She also showed us how to use children's handprints for cute designs on t-shirts and on canvas. Some of the handpint projects she done in the past: Santa's face using an upside down hand print (the fingers are the beard), a turkey (the thumb is the head), handprint wreath, handprint tree, handprint flowers, handprint spiders (2 hands overlapping for Halloween), footprint ghosts (Halloween), and handprint fish.
Tricia Brassel makes picture bracelets and watches with beads you can get at craft stores. She uses a photo jewelry kit to make the frames, and cuts out pictures from the index prints you can get when you have photos developed. Then add beads from a craft store or old jewelry. Making jewelry not your thing, but want a photo bracelet? Email Tricia: bragbracelet@aol.com. You can also see her work up close at CBC (Community Bible Church) on Johnson Street in High Point. She'll be at the Craft Fair on November 14th from 8-12 in the Gym.
Kresha Waldrop makes wall/desk placards with fun sayings and add-ons (she used discarded wood, paints them and uses scrap booking transfer words!). There's also "the cuff". It's a leather bracelet made out of a belt. Simple cut the belt (put embellishments on it if you wish) and then add velcro! You can find Kresha's creations at the next Junk Yard Dolls Sale, it's on Smitty's Notes. Click Here For Smitty's Notes.
Rosa Price makes prayer rocks. You can use any old rock from the yard, fabric squares of your choice, ribbon and then use a computer to print out the "prayer". The rocks are reminders to count your blessings before you go to bed! You can email Rosa at: rosaprice1945@bellsouth.net
